In 1974, some farmers dicovered an underground vault. They found first a head. They tought that was an evil spirit, so they left the place without more searching. They've showed this head to someone else and that man discovered the thousands of terracotta warriors and horses in battle formation.
The place has been burned before 1974. The enemy of the Emperer knew where he was burried. To have a revenge they burned the place. The structure to hold the soil above the army was made of wood. Hereby the wood burned and the soil collapse and destroyed a lot of the warriors and horses. They are rebuilding them now, but the color what they had before that's sadly gone forever.
No two soldier's faces are alike, that because the Emperer in that time wanted every soldier be different.
The soldiers are about 180cm tall, but back in those days the 'normal' height for Chinese men were 160cm. And the detaisl are so good!
It's was impressive to see that many warriors and horses are hidden under the soil. And that there will be much more underneath it without knowing. That one man has the power to let a lot of people working for his tumb...Amazing...
